Does God Really Lead Us in the Details? Or Does He Expect Us to Figure it Out with the Brains He Gave Us?
Life-Block: When All of Life is Writer’s Block…

Ever had writer’s block? Even those who would rather phone than write have probably had it, and some may even live in a perpetual state of writer’s block ;-D.? Sometimes, all of life can be a writer’s block—or life-block—when nothing inspires, and everything bores or irritates.
I loafed through an afternoon of life-block last week. By day’s end my soul was desperate for some “washing of the water of the word,” but I felt uninspired by where I was in my Bible reading—the part of Exodus with chapters of laborious, detailed directions for building the tabernacle.
Honest with Jesus (because He knows my mind anyway), I told Him I wanted to skip it and just read the fun parts. He’s not a legalistic God, so He wouldn’t care—would He? But I also knew that every detail, every procedure, every thread woven into that tabernacle represented God’s Son, the Lamb, and the pattern of worship in heaven. If I skipped it, would I miss a deeper connection to God?
Then I felt a smiling impression from the Lord: “Wait until you see what I have to show you in this passage!”?I sensed Jesus sitting beside me as a friend, excited to share His thoughts about His history. Curiosity enticed, I started reading Exodus 25, aiming to find Christ in the details.
Soon the Spirit brought another scripture to my mind:
Do you not know that you are the temple of God
and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
-?I Corinthians 3:17
Then the Lord revealed His heart, and unblocked the life-block.
Yes, the tabernacle represents Christ and His service as High Priest and Lamb. But at the same time, the purpose of the Lamb’s sacrifice was to indwell?US?as the tabernacle of His Presence. Throughout history the Trinity has been masterly fashioning His people as the home for His Presence and intimate communion with Him.?Just as God showed Moses the detailed pattern for building His home on earth, so He builds us—every detail of our lives—as His dwelling place.
Yes, God cares about the details.

Every piece of expertly fashioned bronze and gold, every carving, every jewel, every warp and woof, every procedure and drop of blood represents the Father’s care in the details of our lives. In every touch, every gesture, every insight into His word and Spirit, every personal or corporate direction, our Lord shows His deep involvement in the soul of His people. Through each day—through times of life-block or inspiration, hardship or pleasure, ugliness or beauty, challenge or rest, the Lord works in the details, building us into a place of communion with His Spirit, as He created us to thrive.
“Abide in Me,” the Vine calls to the branches. Learn to dwell with Him as branches depend on a vine; learn to draw our inspiration and wisdom from Christ’s Presence, every moment of every day.
Does God really lead us in the details? Or does He expect us to figure it out with the brains He gave us?
Yes, God gave us brains and expects us to use them. But He created our brains to function most fully in fellowship with Him. In Moses’ day, God called gifted artisans to fashion the beauty of the tabernacle, and gave them freedom to use their brains and creative ability. But He also “filled them with the spirit of wisdom and understanding” (Exodus 28:3; 31:3-6; 35:26)—He inspired them so their craft could rise above human inspiration, to a higher level that fuses with the beauty of Trinity Presence.
He wants us to use our brains, but He didn’t leave us to figure it out by ourselves!?As we surrender to His fellowship and direction, He inspires us far beyond human reasoning or creativity, into the beauty of His abundant life.
?”I am the Vine, you are the branches.
He who abides in Me, and I in him,
bears much fruit;
for without Me,
?you can do nothing.“
John 15:5
Father God, we surrender our heart, soul, mind and strength to You, to continue fashioning us in every detail, strengthening us as Your home on earth. As we abide in Your Presence, inspire us with creativity and wisdom to more fully reflect Your image in every detail of our relationships and work.?
Please feel free to comment below. How does God’s Presence inspire you? How has He delivered you from life-block??Blessings of joy to you in the journey!
